      _ What is Qigong?
Qigong uses the power of mindfulness, visualization and positive emotional energy to influence physical health. As Hippocrates once wrote, "The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well." This is Qigong in a nutshell. In China Qigong has been practiced for thousands of years; Chinese medicine practitioners often recommend Qigong as part of a patient’s treatment plan.

Qigong is an internal Chinese meditative practice that uses slow graceful movements and breathing techniques to promote the circulation of Qi (life force) within the human body, enhancing a practitioner's overall health and well-being. There are also forms of Qigong that are done with little or no movement at all, in standing, sitting and supine positions.

The Chinese character for Qi, in the word Qigong, can mean air, breath, or "life force". Gong means work, so Qigong is therefore the practice of "working" with one's "life force". In practice Qigong is activated by the harmonious blending of the mind, body and breath (the three regulators); this blending is the secret to creating a Qigong effect which will promote health, healing and well-being.

      What is Qigong good for?

Qigong techniques can be helpful for many conditions because they encourage relaxation, reduce tension and pain, and lessen the need for medication. Qigong techniques are used along with other modalities such as acupuncture and herbal medicine to treat pain and other complaints. Symptoms of anxiety and depression also respond well to Qigong techniques.

Qigong techniques may help treat many different diseases, including:

      • High blood pressure
      • Asthma
      • Coronary heart disease
      • Obesity
      • Pain and nausea/vomiting related to chemotherapy
      • Insomnia
      • Anxiety
      • Diabetes
      • Stomach and intestinal problems
      • Fibromyalgia
      • Menopausal symptoms

At Turning Point we teach a variety of stationary and moving Qigong styles to give you a complete experience of calming the mind, increasing energy and promoting health.
