Self Defense

Effortless Power

Self-Defense through the Feldenkrais Method
Ages 50+

This class uses gentle and easy movement to explore aspects of self-defense that anyone, regardless of age or ability, can do.  Classes will include improving balance, how to fall softly, and escapes from grabs, as well as psychological self-defense techniques.  Gwynn is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner, holds a black belt in three martial arts, and has been teaching self-defense for five years.  Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing.

The class will repeat six themes over six weeks.  These themes will be Breath and Voice, Balance, Escapes, Pressure Points, Striking, and Falling.  Students can come to all classes, or any individual class.  The themes will rotate, so that if you miss a week you can come back to the same material after six weeks.

The first half hour of the class will be a short Awareness Through Movement® lesson.  This will consist of slow, gentle and easy movements designed to improve basic movement skills.  Students will spend the second half hour using their new skills in focused self-defense practice.

Classes will be Wednesdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Albany Community Center.
Fee is $8/class, $7 if you are an Albany resident.
