LeBlanc Wing Chun

Yip Man Lineage-Wong Shun Leung System-Gary Lam Style

Wing Chun Kung Fu is a traditional Chinese martial art that has a historical linage of teachers dating back over 300 years. Gregory’s late Grand teacher (Sigung) Wong Shun Leung of "Hong Kong" Wing Chun fame suggested it is most likely that a group of "Kung Fu fanatics" with a wealth of knowledge and experience gradually developed what we now call Wing Chun Kung Fu, refining it further and further with each successive generation. Wing Chun provides an exceptional system of self-defense and personal development that can be maintained for a lifetime. Wing Chun techniques always reflect a direct, simple and efficient approach to self defense. Wing Chun strives to use concepts and skills that promote martial ability instead of relying solely on physical size and power. Perhaps Wing Chun's most famous student was Bruce Lee, who decades ago mastered Wing Chun's skills and then used its principles as a core art in developing his own mixed martial arts style (Jun Fan Wing Chun).

In 1997 Gregory began studying Wing Chun Kung Fu under Sifu Gary Lam (Lam Man Hoc); Sifu Lam was a student of Lok Yu for 2 years and a student of Wong Shun Leung for 13 years. Gregory became one of a handful of indoor students under Sifu Lam, attending all public classes and training in private twice a week for 7 years. Gregory served as Sifu Lam's assistant coach from 2000-2005, teaching the next generation of students in Sifu Lam's lineage. In June of 2005 Gregory was given authorization to teach Sifu Lam's entire Wing Chun system; Gregory is Sifu Lam's first fully certified coach. Gregory has been running his own Wing Chun school with Sifu Lam's full endorsement since 2000, starting in the South Bay area of Los Angeles and now relocated to Oakland, California.

Kadena De Mano at LeBlanc Wing Chun

Sifu LeBlanc began his study of Kadena De Mano (KDM) with Mangisursuro Mike Inay, after Mangisursuro's untimely passing he continued his studies with Sensei Mike Esmailzadeh*. Kadena De Mano translates to “chain of hand” and is a combination of empty-hand and knife/dagger techniques. It covers basic and advanced blocks (or counters), basic and advanced hand and knife drills as well as permuted locks from the basic/advanced drills. Lock/flow/trap practice drills are stressed as well as subject control through the use of Vital Points (Pressure Sensitive Nerves). Our KDM class is taught under the supervision of Sensei Mike Esmailzadeh.

*Our style of KDM comes from Grandmaster Max Sarmiento as taught to Mangisursuro Mike Inay, it is often referred to as Sarmiento Kadena De Mano. Sensei Mike Esmailzadeh was given formal permission to teach KDM by Mangisursuro Mike Inay.

Class is every Sunday 9am-12noon, located in Oakland California. Please let us know if you would like to visit a class. Private and semi-private instruction is available by appointment.
