This ongoing class is a unique approach to mindfulness as presented in the Zen tradition. Each class includes a brief review of the 3 step method and then two 25 minute practice periods followed by a brief talk.
What the ZHB class offers is easy to learn practice that provides a clear path to resting in your own innate consciousness of being; this natural state is already stress free and at peace.
Physiological effects of mindfulness:
-Your metabolism decreases -Your heart beats slower and your muscles relax -Your breathing becomes slower -Your blood pressure decreases -Your levels of nitric oxide are increased
Extensive research has been done on Mindfulness demonstrating its ability to:
-Lowers stress hormones -Increases arousal from the drowsy state -Helps in relieving pain -Increases motivation and productivity -Improves decision making -Helps in curing sleep disorders -Lowers anxiety and irritability
The class is taught by Greg LeBlanc; Greg is a certified Zen teacher and has been practicing mindfulness for 30 years. The class is $10/per session; please bring cash or check. Remove noisy jewelry and digital watches, and be sure to turn off cell phones and beepers. It is not a good idea to eat immediately before practice; but eating breakfast is recommended. Practice schedule: The last Saturday of every month 10am-11:30am. Please bring your own meditation cushion or any special requirements you have regarding sitting comfortably for a time period of 25 minutes.
