To practice Acupuncture in the state of California, one must successfully complete 3,000 total hours - including 2,000 didactic and 1000 clinical hours. Most people finish this arduous journey over a four-year period of time. The Master's Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine is the longest master's program in the entire country. Even after the diploma is obtained, one must pass the esteemed California Acupuncture Licensing Exam, which boasts statistics of 49% to 61% pass-rates over the last six years. NCCAOM board certification in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine involves a rigorous process of testing and peer evaluation that is designed and administered by specialists in Asian Medicine.
